THE HAEMATOPOIETIC RESPONSE TO INTRA-MUSCULAR INJECTIONS OF CONCENTRATED HUMAN GASTRIC JUICE

Abstract
Hematopoietic responses to intramus. injections of human gastric juice concd. by the Bechold ultrafilter at icebox temp., and by vacuum distillation at 40[degree]C., were detd. in patients having typical clinical and hematological pernicious anemia. Gastric juice kept in the icebox 2 mos., concd. by ultra-filtration, upon injection induced submaximal reticulocyte response; injection of the ultrafiltrate, concd. by vacuum distillation, caused no response. Fresh gastric juice similarly prepared and tested called forth no response. Fresh gastric juice concd. in vacuo induced maximum reticulocyte response, as did similarly treated gastric juice subsequently diluted and reconcd. by ultra-filtration. The ultrafiltrate thus produced also induced a response. A delayed submaximal response followed the injection of gastric juice concd. first by ultrafiltra-tion, the concentrate being diluted and reconcd. by vacuum distillation.
