Abstract
Relationships between the virus of the classic fowl plague and representatives of the A-type of influenza were established by means of the complement-fixation and cross-immunization tests but were not shown by precipitation, hemagglutination, inhibition, and neutralization tests. The serologic study of the cleavage products of influenza FM/1 and fowl plague viruses showed that the antigen components, which are common to both pathogens have their seat in the "bound antigen" of the virus elementary particles. On the basis of this knowledge an explanation of the different results of the different sero-immunological reactions was sought. Just as the influenza viruses, the fowl plague virus also can be carried to the lungs of white mice by intranasal inoculation. It was continued in this way up to 14 passages. The viruses of influenza and the classic fowl plague on the basis of similarities in physico-chemical and sero-immunological respects are now definitely to be classified in one group.
