Abstract
A procedure has been developed, which makes it possible to prepare a Drosophila bait, which is a good attractant, but is free of living microorganisms. Mashed banana is allowed to ferment by baker''s yeast, after which the mash is treated with ethylene oxide or prophlene-oxide (1% by volume). Treatment sterilizes the bait, while the germicide decomposes readily into nontoxic end products. Bait is suitable for collecting Drosophila in order to study microflora present in their crops.
