Abstract
The photoionization cross section of Ba I was measured photoelectrically at 237.9 nm. The number density was determined simultaneously by the hook method using the 307.2 nm line. The cross section obtained is (50+or-8)*10-18 cm2, which is a factor of 5 larger than the previously published value based on vapour pressure data. Keywords
