Effect of ion-implantation on bubble translation velocity

Abstract
Bubble translation velocity has been measured as a function of gradient field drive in both ion‐implanted and as‐grown garnet films to study the effect of ion‐implantation on velocity. The apparent velocity, defined by the ratio of displacement to pulse width, shows a peak then saturates with increasing drive in the as‐grown films. In ion‐implanted films, the apparent velocity increases above the peak observed in the as‐grown films; and in some implanted films, the saturation is not observed. This difference is probably attributable to the suppression of Bloch loop punch‐through by the implanted layer and the resultant bubble overshoot effect.
