Doublet Separation in Nuclei from Signell-Marshak Potential

Abstract

The spin-orbit splittings for the $l=1\mathrm{}$ and $l=3\mathrm{}$ levels of ${\mathrm{Ca}}^{41}$ and $l=2\mathrm{}$ level of ${\mathrm{O}}^{17}$ have been calculated in the spirit of Brueckner's theory in the first Born approximation from the spin-orbit term that Marshak and Signell have added to the two-nucleon Gartenhaus potential. The results obtained are much larger than those obtained from the conventional tensor force in second order.
