Abstract
A simple approximate analytic expression for calculating B(E2) transition amplitudes is derived in the framework of the interacting boson model. The expression gives values accurate within ±6% as compared to numerical calculations in either the phenomenological or the neutron-proton interacting boson model, and is valid for a large number of nuclei throughout the O(6)-SU(3) region. Keywords
