Two-Beam Mirrorless Optical Bistability in Nematic Liquid Crystal Film

Abstract
We Report here the first experimental observation of first-order optical freedericksz transitions, which arise when two laser beams interact inchherently in a hometropically aligned nematic film. Experimental evidence for hysteresis cycles (bistability) is given, The comparsion with the theory shows that the two transitions in a cycle have an essentially different character.
