A reiteration of the author''s views concerning the correlation of lunglessness in salamanders with a mountain brook habitat. Certain exceptions to this rheotropic adaptation theory, first proposed by Lonnberg and further developed by Wilder and Dunn, are taken into account to meet the objections raised by Noble.
