Abstract
The Compton profiles of polycrystalline BN and B4C have been measured with MoKα X-rays. The valence-electron contributions to the measured profiles, from which the effects of finite instrumental resolution were effectively removed, were in marked disagreement with those calculated from Hartree-Fock free-atom wave functions. Comparison of the experimental and calculated valence-electron momentum distributions, deduced from the Compton profiles, indicated that the observed distributions are more extended in momentum space than the calculated ones.
