Observations Concerning the Hypothalamic Control of Pituitary Luteotrophin Secretion in the Rat

Abstract
Lesions in the anterior hypothalamic area located dorsolaterally to the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) were able to induce prolonged diestrus in the rat if the operation was performed on the day of estrus. Uterine trauma elicited deciduomata in a high percentage of animals with these lesions. The nature of the control exerted by this hypothalamic region in the release of luteotrophin (LtH) and its anatomical basis are discussed in the light of the results obtained and of previous findings in the literature.
