The Evaluation of Multiplexability of a Supertwisted Nematic Liquid Crystal Display Device in Terms of Crosstalk Ratio

Abstract
The multiplexability of a supertwisted nematic (STN)-LCD was evaluated in terms of crosstalk ratio. The effects of driving waveform, contrast polarity, and reflective versus transmissive modes of these LCDs were well expressed by the crosstalk ratio. These results were compared with those for a conventional TN-LCD. The STN-LCD (operated at the duty ratio of 1/200) gave a crosstalk ratio of about 20% while the TN type gave 60%. This shows a distinct and quantitative superiority of the STN type in multiplexability compared with the TN-LCD.
