A piston pump for respiration simulation

Abstract

A piston-pump system to generate respiration data (flow and gas concentrations) is presented. The resulting respiration simulation facilitates function control of automatic on-line analysis systems without any adaptation of the equipment used. Breathing human subjects are replaced by the piston pump, which generates breaths of constant volumes and known gas concentrations. Construction, function and applications of this simulation device are described.
