Determination of Barbituric Acid Derivatives as Mercury Complexes

Abstract
Barbituric acid derivatives give precipitates with mercuric ions, which are soluble in certain organic solvents, for example, chloroform, and can be extracted. By the addition of dithizone to the extract the mercury can be determined and hence the equivalent amount of the barbiturate. As little as 0.1 μg./ml. in the final solution can be determined. Interferences seem to be few.
