ACUTE HEPATITIS DUE TO BRUCELLOSIS

Abstract
This is a case report of a Negro male slaughter-house worker who developed an acute hepatitis with marked jaundice. The liver was not enlarged. Liver function studies revealed impairment of function. Blood cultures were positive for Brucella suis and the agglutination test was positive in high dilution. Chloram-phenicol therapy produced marked and rapid clinical improvement although the laboratory studies were abnormal for more than 10 weeks. There had been no clinical relapse 19 mos. after discharge from the hospital.
