Bacterial Contamination of the Hands of Hospital Staff During Routine Patient Care

Abstract
NOSOCOMIAL infections have been recognized for more than a century as a critical problem affecting the quality of health care provided in hospitals. Results of previous studies show that at least one third of all nosocomial infections are preventable.1 A significant proportion of infections result from cross-contamination, and transmission of microorganisms by the hands of health care workers (HCWs) is the main route of spread.2
