Abstract
A series of quaternary ammonium salts has been tested as phase transfer agents to promote reactions between phenols and alkyl halides in an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide in the absence oforganic solvent. Methyltrioctylammonium chloride emerges as the most effective catalyst. Keywords
