Recoil Ranges of 0.22- to 5.2-MeV Ions in Vanadium, Iron, Nickel, Zirconium, and Gold

Abstract
Recoil ranges were measured by the thick-target-thick-catcher technique for reactions induced in V51, Zr90, and Au197 with 10-80-MeV He4 ions, in Ni58 with 2-21-MeV deuterons, and in Fe54 with 15-60-MeV Li6 ions. The experimental ranges ρ and ε were corrected for the influence of particle evaporation from moving fragments and for nuclear scattering. The corrected points are compared with the range theory due to Lindhard, Scharff, and Schiott. Results of the comparison show agreement within experimental uncertainties over the entire range of measurement, covering values of ρ from 0.4 to 60 and ε from 0.13 to 40.
