Abstract
Argyrolobiummegarhizum Bol. has been found to contain a number of alkaloids, four of which have been well characterized. Two of these were identical with N-methylcytisine and cytisine respectively, while the other two were new. One of these proved to be the levorotatory enantiomorph of aphyllidine, while the other (the major alkaloid), C15H22O2N2, designated argyrolobine, was shown to be a hydroxyaphyllidine, and its absolute configuration derived by reduction to (−)-sparteine.
