Application of Multiposition Valves for Gas Sampling and GC Analysis

Abstract
A multiposition 16-port valve has been demonstrated to be useful tool for sampling and storing 16 gas samples from a chemical process. When this valve is connected to a gas chromatographic unit, the gas samples can be recalled individually and analyzed directly, without additional mechanical handling by the operator. Analyses of two standard calibration gas mixtures are repeatable and agree well with their respective known gas compositions. This combined system has wide application for product analysis in kinetic studies of the chemical reactions involved in coal gasification, combustion, and pyrolysis. The installation and calibration of this sampling device is described in this report.
