Expts. were performed which show that goldfish deprived of sensitivity to light may recover that sensitivity after the lateral line nerve is cut. Restoration is attributed to the fact that cutting the lateral line nerve prevents heat stimuli, received by temperature endings along the lateral line system, from reaching the central nervous system so that the fish continues to respond to light up to a nearly lethal temperature.
