Defects of Learning Ability with Massive Lesions of the Temporal Lobe

Abstract
Effect of massive lesions of the temporal lobe in man in certain cognitive functions are comparable to those resulting from anterior temporal lobectomy for temporal lobe epilepsy. Massive lesions of the dominant temporal lobe can lead to a specific impairment of auditory verbal learning. After successful therapy the impairment may disappear, suggesting that normal temporal lobe functioning has been restored. There is no specific impairment of either auditory, visual or tactile learning abilities with comparable massive lesions of the non-dominant temporal lobe.
