Factors Affecting the Utilization of Food by Dairy Cows

Abstract

The loss in wt. of coils of cotton thread in the rumen was detd. with cows on diets of ground and un-ground hay, with and without concentrates. The rate of callulose breakdown was related to the dry matter content of the surrounding digesta; low dry matter content favoring rapid cellulose breakdown.
