Abstract
A technique is given by which nonlinear differential equations may be solved approximately, using variational principles for which certain restrictions are made. Ordinary first‐ and second‐order equations are discussed in detail. The method is extended to encompass partial differential equations and applied to the Boltzmann transport equation. Keywords
