A. densa propagates vegetatively by means of well differentiated shoot segments. A double node occurs at the distal end of each segment and this alone is able to give rise to lateral buds and roots. Separation of segments occurs just above the double node. This region develops brittleness only in high light intensity. Details of the anatomy and behavior of the segments are discussed and illustrated with photographs.
