GENETICS OF THE FOWL

Abstract
A map is presented showing the approx. locations of 21 mutant genes in 6 linkage groups. 2 other mutations are assigned to 2 of these groups, but their loci are not yet known. The sex chromosome contains head streak, barring, inhibitor of dermal melanin, brown eye, light down, silver and slow feathering in the order given, as well as naked, the position of which is not yet known. One autosomal group contains crest, dominant white and frizzling in that order, and fray, which is not yet located. Another chromosome carries creeper, rose comb, and uropygial. The 4th group includes pea comb, blue egg, marbled down and naked neck. The 5th group contains only 2 genes, silky and flightless. In the 6th group are duplex comb and multiple spurs. All of these mutations and their normal alleles are illustrated.
