Abstract
Cultures of C. vulgaris and C. pyrenoidosa produce a subst. antibiotic against both Gram + and [long dash] organisms. Best yields were obtained from mature cultures harvested directly after natural and fluorescent illumination. Crude extracts were obtained from cell-freed culture solns. and biol. tests for activity were done on clear aq. crude extracts. The tests indicate that the antibact. principle accumulates in uncontaminated Chlorella cultures and its activity can be tested by standard bacteriological methods. The crude extract thus far obtained in low yield is Chlorellin. Chlorella requires for growth only minerals, CO2 and light. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
