The Size of Somatic Chromosomes at Different Ages in the Rat

Abstract

Dr. Biesele has published a number of papers on chromosomal changes—in relation to b vitamins, ribonucleic acid, and nuclear volume; in epidermal carcinogenesis; and now in the size of chromosomes at different ages in the rat. Variability in chromosome size was observed from metaphase to metaphase, in different tissues in the same animal, in the same tissue in different animals of the same age group, and in the same tissue in animals of different age groups. The least variability was observed in embryonic animals, the greatest in the old animals.
