Abstract
Caries-susceptible rats (112) were equally distributed among 5 groups by litter and sex as follows control, control + NaCl supplemented, adrenalectomized + NaCl supplemented, control + cortisone supplemented (0.6 mg/day) and adrenalectomized + cortisone supplemented (0.6 mg/day). Contrary to previous reports, adrenalectomy did not increase the caries susceptibility of caries-susceptible rats. Animals receiving salt supplementation of the diet and drink demonstrated a trend toward lower scores for third molars only. Intact rats receiving 0.6 mg cortisone/ day exhibited higher scores of boderline significance, which was not seen in adrenalectomized animals also receiving cortisone.
