Intra-Uterine Blood Transfer between Uniovular Twins

Abstract
A set of uniovular twins in which the first-born twin was polycythemic and the second twin appeared anemic at birth, are reported. A detailed description of the placenta, and a technique for the identification of placental anastomoses are presented. It is maintained that placental anastomoses are a cause of anemia in one twin and polycythemia in the other. Other hypotheses concerning this clinical condition and its treatment are discussed.
