Abstract
An exact analytic solution for the random-phase-approximation dielectric response including the surface correction is derived for a semi-infinite layered electron gas with different dielectric media on either side of the surface. The Raman intensity is calculated. The bulk plasmon line shape agrees with experiment; conditions for experimental observation of surface plasmons are described. Keywords
