The Value of the Gel-Precipitation Method for the Study of Auto-Immunological Problems

Abstract

In our earlier experiments it was found, that even in cases with degenerative diseases without any bacterial influence tissue specific antibodies may be traceable, but only by means of the highly sensitive hemagglutination test according to Boyden. As this method does not allow to differentiate between tissue antibodies formed under various conditions, we tried to demonstrate these auto-antibodies with the help of the gel precipitation method. This was possible after having enhanced the antibody concentration by injections of Freund''s adjuvant. The adjuvant''s mode of action in processes of auto-immunization and the favorable conditions for further research concerning the differentiation of conditions for further research concerning the differentiation of auto-antigenic substances by the gel precipitation method are discussed.
