Abstract
The world's largest industrial process, ammonia synthesis, uses promoted iron catalysts. Fifty years ago fused and promoted iron catalysts were first utilized in the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. The importance of this latter process has increased during the last few years because of the current energy crisis. Iron sulfide catalysts were also used by Varga [1] for the high pressure hydrogenation of coal. This procese, however, has been substituted by other methods. Keywords
