Permeability of the dento‐gingival blood vessels

Abstract

In resting, chronically inflamed gingivae as a rule fluid could not be collected on paper strips placed in the orifice of the gingival crevice. This indicates that the dento‐gingival blood vessels in chronically inflamed gingivae do not usually exhibit abnormal permeability. Using the vascular labelling method, however, it was observed that the vascular loops in the marginal half of the crevicular region regularly showed punctate deposits of carbon, bearing evidence of a slight increase of the permeability of these vessels. This increase was not great enough to cause formation of registrable amounts of gingival fluid.
