Prognosis of Stage I Lymphosarcoma and Reticulum-Cell Sarcoma

Abstract

Eleven patients with Stage I (i.e., negative lymphangiography) lymphosarcoma and 15 with Stage I reticulum-cell sarcoma were followed for at least two years. There were three deaths and six recurrences, all within 32 months of diagnosis. Twenty-four of 26 patients (92 per cent) were alive at two years, and 17 of 20 (85 per cent) at four years. Early bone-marrow invasion was seen only in the three patients who died. Six patients survived for a mean of over 111 months with nodal and extranodal recurrences. There were two deaths and six recurrences in 19 patients (42 per cent) receiving less than 3500 R (supervoltage in most cases) and only one death and no recurrences in seven patients (14 per cent) receiving at least 3500 R to the primary tumor site.
