Abstract
Anemia, which is common in the critically ill, is often treated with red-cell transfusions, which are associated with poor clinical outcomes. We hypothesized that therapy with recombinant human erythropoietin (epoetin alfa) might reduce the need for red-cell transfusions.Keywords
