Abstract
The probability of electron detachment from 20-MeV ions by the Lorentz force of a magnetic field has been measured as a function of field strength. For a transit time through the magnetic field of ≈5× sec, the detachment process becomes important at an equivalent electric field, , of about 3.2× V/cm and is essentially complete at 4.2× V/cm. The results are in agreement with calculations by Hiskes and Khoe.
