Abstract
The anemia in this case resulted from expansion of the blood volume due to splenomegaly since the marrow had a limited capacity for increasing the output of red cells the increased volume contained a disproportionately high plasma fraction. The red cell mass, although within normal limits, was thereby dilated with a consequent reduction in the hemoglobin level of the peripheral blood. Keywords
