Bound State Problem and the Determination of Coupling Constants

Abstract
A formulation is given to obtain the coupling constant of a particle when it is composite. This is done using the condition that the renormalization constant of the wave function vanishes for a composite particle. As an example the pion-nucleon coupling constant is calculated by this method. The value obtained, which depends on the coupling constants of ρ- and ω-mesons to nucleons, is about 35.
