Respiratorische Gebundenheit der über die Zellmembran erfolgenden protoplasmatischen Phosphatversorgung

Abstract
It was shown that under anaerobic conditions phosphate is unable to penetrate into the interior of the cell even under conditions of phosphate-deficiency. Under anaerobic conditions over compensation appears in the regeneration phase following culture under phosphate-deficient conditions. These results were obtained using a strain of Torulopsis with a normal RQ of 1.07. The results were confirmed by histochemical tests. It is concluded that the membrane mechanism of phosphate transfer involves an oxidative phosphorylation process. It had been found earlier that the phosphate transfer across the cell membrane is inhibited by DNP; it is thus not simple diffusion. The present experiments demonstrate the link with respiration.
