Abstract
Composition of the essential oil in Satureja montana subsp. montana. - The qualitative and quantitative composition of essential oil in Satureja montana subsp. montana of the «Appennino marchigiano», has been studied in relation to environmental conditions. The percentage output increases with altitude reaching its optimum value at 450 metres; above it there is a decrease in percentage output. The essential oil is particularly rich both in phenolic components (especially carvacrol) and monocyclic compounds such as γ-terpinene and paracimene; sesquiterpenes, such as β-cariophyllene, are also present.
