Abstract
Complexes of the general formulae Re(C0)4(dam)X, Re(CO),(dam)X, Re2(C0)6(dam)X2, Re(CO)3(dam)2X, and Re(CO)2(dam)X [dam = bis(dipheny1- arsino)methane; X = C1, Br, I] have been prepared by direct interaction of the ligand with the rhenium(1) pentacarbonylhalides, Re(CO)5X. In each case the rate of substitution is in the order C1 > Br > I. The particular complex which is formed depends on the mole ratio of Re(CO),X to dam, the solvent used, and the refluxing time. Infrared and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy have been used to determine the composition and structure of the complexes.
