(p, t) Reactions onSc45andCa44and the Weak-Coupling Core-Excitation Model

Abstract
From a study of the (p, t) reaction on Sc45 and Ca44, Jπ of the 1.41-MeV state in Sc43 is inferred to be 72. It is found that both the absolute cross sections and angular distribution shapes for this transition are almost identical with those for the transition to the 1.84-MeV 02+ state in Ca42 (as are the corresponding ground-state transitions). It is suggested that the 1.41-MeV state in Sc43 consists primarily of the 02+ excited state of the Ca42 core with an f72 proton weakly coupled to it, just as Sc43(g.s.) consists mainly of Ca42(g.s.) plus an f72 proton.
