Abstract
Despite frequent use of hypnosis for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), literature on each has developed relatively independently. However, the two may be linked through the construct of dissociation which explains the efficacy of hypnosis in treating PTSD. Furthermore, intrusive and denial clusterings of PTSD symptoms respond to different types of hypnotic interventions, allowing more systematic planning of psychotherapy for PTSD. Four case studies illustrate these classes of interventions.
