THE SOMATIC RECEIVING AREA IN THE BRAIN OF THE SHETLAND PONY

Abstract

In a paper describing the afferent areas of the brain in various ungulates (Adrian, 1943) an account was given of the somatic receiving area in the Shetland pony, but a detailed map was only made in one animal and this dealt mainly with the representation of the nostril. Two more ponies have now been examined. The results are in general agreement with those already reported and give further information about the representation of the trunk and limbs. An interesting feature is the great convergence of pathways from the limbs compared with the detailed representation of the nostril.
