Reaction between iron porphyrins and carbon monoxide. A kinetic model for myoglobin

Abstract
Kinetic studies of the reaction between carbon monoxide and (piperidine)2Fe(porphyrin) complexes to give (piperidine)Fe(CO)(porphyrin) show that the mechanism involves predissociation to a five-co-ordinate (piperidine)Fe(porphyrin) complex; the data for the protoporphyrin IX system suggest that the model may resemble closely in kinetic properties the active iron site in deoxy-myoglobin and -hemoglobin.
