KINETICS OF THE NITRITE OXIDATION BY NITROBACTER WINOGRADSKYI

Abstract
The initial rate of oxidation varies with the substrate concentration according to a Michaelis-Menten type of rate law. The influence of temperature on the parameters of this equation can be expressed by an activation energy of 9850 cal per mole for the whole process and an enthalpy of 19,500 cal per mole for the formation of the substrate-enzyme complex provided the corresponding equilibrium is not disturbed by the formation of the reaction product.
