Hemolytic-Uremic Syndrome in an Adult: Light and Electron Microscopic Observations

Abstract
The case of an adult patient with hemolytic-uremic syndrome is presented. Coagulation studies showed no abnormalities, but platelet adhesiveness was zero and platelet aggregation with adenosine diphosphate was markedly decreased. Light and electron microscopic studies of a renal biopsy specimen from this patient revealed arterial and glomerular thrombosis, extensive mural alteration of small arteries, and "acute glomerular obsolescence."
