Studies on Excretion of Antibiotics in Human Saliva

Abstract
Con-comitant levels of aureomycin were detd. in blood serum and saliva in 20 patients following intraven. injn. of 100 mg. of aureomycin HCl with Na glycinate buffer at different time intervals. The antibiotic is excreted in the saliva within 15 min. following intraven. admn. The max. concn. appears in the saliva at the end of 1 hr. By the end of the 2nd hr. there is a 40% drop. There may be a secondary rise at the end of 4 hrs. in the saliva but not in the blood. This discrepancy, however, may be within range of exptl. error. Measurable amts. of aureomycin were present at the end of 16 hrs. At the end of 24 hrs. no detectable levels were present in the saliva.
