Abstract
"This article deals primarily with the more conventional aspects of the histochemistry of higher animals. The material presented is collected under various headings": the inorganic ions,[long dash]chloride, phosphate + carbonate, potassium, calcium, magnesium, heavy metals; methods of dealing with them,[long dash]freezing and drying, microincineration, historadiography, and histospectroscopy; enzymes,[long dash]pepsin, peptidase, urease, esterase, lipase, amylase, cytochrome; sulfuric acid esters; vitamins; nuclear materials,[long dash]nucleic acid, as studied by ultraviolet light and by staining, iron, zinc, enzymes; cytoplasm,[long dash]ground substance and mitochondria; endocrine glands,[long dash]adrenal, thyroid, pancreas; exocrine glands,[long dash]stomach, liver, kidney. "The literature cited is not exhaustive[long dash]it was carefully selected from among the most significant contributions in each subject treated. With few exceptions, the period covered is the last decade.".
